Air Itam Dam
Said to be the first dam to be built on Penang island, the Air Itam Dam was also the first major engineering project by George Town's City Council. At 700 feet above sea level the area is said to create a microclimate space that is slightly cooler than more congested parts of the island.
The water catchment area is around the corner from Penang Hill. Construction of the dam was completed between 1958 and 1962 and the then Governor of Penang, officiated the opening of the dam on the 8 of December, 1962. Today, Air Itam Dam has bacome a favourite spot for joggers as well as those who has a knack for picnicking in nature.
From the peak, you will be amazed by a great panoramic view of George Town. Sighting of various aquatic creatures and wildlife has also become a common thing at the dam and its surrounding area. The Air Itam Dam is one of three dams on Penang island, the other two being Teluk Bahang Dam and Mengkuang Dam.
