Malaysia’s Tourism Triumphs: Aiming High for 2025 and Beyond
Malaysia welcomed 18.38 million international tourists between January and September 2024, marking a 27% year-on-year increase. While still 8.6% below pre-pandemic levels, the country is optimistic about a robust recovery.
Tourism Malaysia has set ambitious goals: 31.4 million visitors in 2025 and 35.6 million in 2026, with projected revenue of RM147.1 billion. Boosted by Malaysia’s upcoming ASEAN chairmanship in 2025 and Visit Malaysia Year 2026, these targets reflect strategic confidence.
Top tourist sources in August 2024 included Singapore (35.1%), Indonesia (14.6%), and China (13.9%). With renewed focus and major events on the horizon, Malaysia is poised to reclaim its place as a top global destination.
