Continue to Kuala Sepetang, also one of the hidden gems in Perak, a century-old tranquil fishing harbour that beckons visitors with its natural beauty and rich heritage. The manufacturing process has been meticulously preserved in the custody of a select group of small factories since 1940, steadfastly employing traditional methods to craft high-quality charcoal in kilns. One such factory is My Charcoal Factory, which allows visitors to learn the factory’s age-old techniques and witness the alchemical process of turning wood into black gold.

Another must-visit attraction in Kuala Sepatang is Hun Leng Heong Hang, an establishment dedicated to crafting Chinese dragon incense, under the ownership of its second-generation proprietor, Tan Seow Kheng. Tan inherited the intricate and time-consuming art of making joss sticks from his parents, who originally hailed from Guangzhou, China.

These dragon joss sticks hold significant importance in Chinese religious traditions, as they are ceremoniously burned as offerings to the deities during special festivals. Presently, Tan leads a team of expert artisans who specialize in crafting elaborate designs, some of which may require as long as 6 to 10 months to complete a substantial dragon incense.

Day 9: Kuala Sepetang, Perak to Balik Pulau, Penang
